The Importance of Printing Pressure

People often say "there is no printing without pressure", which fully illustrates the importance of printing pressure. Since printing pressure is so important, does it mean that the greater the pressure, the better? Of course not. Generally speaking, the appropriateness of printing pressure is often reflected in the printing quality of the printed product. Printing pressure should be based on the premise that the printed product has solid dots, clear images, bright colors and appropriate shades, and the smaller the pressure is, the better.
Tinplate cans are printed under appropriate printing pressure

In the entire offset printing process, it is the process of resolving the contradiction between ink and substrate. In order to smoothly transfer the ink-coated images on the printing plate to the printed substrate, a certain printing pressure must be applied during the image transfer process.

When the printing pressure is too small, it will cause:

  1. The transfer of printed images is not complete;

  2. The dots are not firm and the color is gray and pale;

  3. The imprint is not firmly fixed and the images are weak;

  4. The original defects and faults of the printing plate, lining and iron printing machine are more obvious.

Therefore, the ideal printing pressure should be: under the condition of a certain deformation of the printing area, on the basis of sufficient firmness of the imprint, the minimum pressure is used evenly. The imprint can only be firmly fixed if the printing pressure is appropriate. Too much or too little printing pressure is not conducive to printing quality, and it is extremely harmful to the correct transfer of the imprint.

The ideal printing pressure is not a fixed concept, but it is appropriately adjusted and adapted according to various objective printing conditions under the premise of being beneficial to product quality. In practice, the ideal pressure is generally controlled at about 0.15mm-0.25mm, and the pressure between the impression cylinder and the rubber cylinder is about 0.5mm-0.10mm greater than the pressure between the plate cylinder and the rubber cylinder.
